Our Founder - Maureen

Meet Maureen

Maureen (E-RYT 500, YACEP), the founder and owner of Mangala Yoga, leads a fulfilling life both in and out of the studio. When she's not immersed in the world of yoga, she's devoted to her husband, their four children, and their furry companion. Maureen splits her time between New Jersey, Hawaii and Colorado, frequently traveling between the studio locations throughout the year.

Her journey into yoga began in 1997 when she attended her first Iyengar yoga class in a less-than-ideal setting, a somewhat questionable library in Maryland. Despite the unconventional space, she discovered a profound connection that resonated with her, reminiscent of a place she could call home. This experience ignited a lifelong passion for yoga.

Over the years, Maureen has explored and embraced various yoga styles, including Anusara, Iyengar, Power Vinyasa, Vinyasa Flow, Yin, and Restorative Yoga. Her primary focus is on Vinyasa, which she refers to as "Jungle Flow," practiced in a non-heated environment, and "Lava Flow," conducted in an infrared heated yoga studio. Maureen's background in massage, anatomy, and kinesiology has played a pivotal role in shaping Mangala Yoga's teacher-training programs, workshops, and intensives.

Maureen's dedication to yoga led her to complete her 500-hour Yoga Teacher Training in Vinyasa with the esteemed Janet Stone in San Francisco, CA. During her training, Christopher Wallis, also known as "Hareesh," shared his profound insights into Tantric Philosophy, sparking Maureen's deep interest in this philosophy. She continued her study of Tantric philosophy with Hareesh in the Bay Area over the following years.
