Ganesha is known as the remover of obstacles. He is also called by other names such as Ganapati and Ganesh. The ax he carries symbolizes removing the obstacles in our path. The noose he carries is used to lasso us back onto our true path when we find ourselves astray. His right hand is in the abhaya mudra, stopping ignorance and encouraging clarity. In his lower left hand is a treat representing the sweetness of the realized self. Underneath the sweet-treat the rat waits patiently for a crumb/taste of the realized self to fall. The rat represents the mind, which can be sneaky, impulsive, and deceiving.Feel free to bring Ganesha an offering at any time! He loves fruits, sweets, incense and gold. Allow this deity to become alive to you and begin to receive the blessings of Ganesha. Jai Ganesha!
When we work with any deity we evoke a deeper set of powers that dwell within us all. The more we honor the deity, the more its qualities become alive within us. We can even begin to see them playing out in our everyday lives. -Maureen
